Bernhard Bergmann (born December 23, 1948 in Roth - Eckersmühlen ; † March 12, 2020 ) was a German football player and coach . He was versatile, but mainly played as a libero .
Career
Pre-career
He began his career at the age of ten at TV Eckersmühlen , where he stayed for nine years until 1968. After that, Bergmann played for TSV 04 Schwabach for two years before moving to SpVgg Fürth in 1970 .
SpVgg Fürth
After the then Fürth coach Fred Hoffmann invited the defender to a trial training session, he signed a professional contract with the second division team . After half a year, Bergmann became a regular player in the clover leaves , but initially as a midfielder . It was not until the 1976/77 season that he played as a libero , where he rose to become the undisputed captain . Bernhard Bergmann played a total of 13 years in Fürth and scored twelve goals in 322 second division games and 16 goals in 126 regional league games. He also scored three goals in 22 DFB Cup games.
Because he was known as one of the best libero of the second division, he was called often "the Beckenbauer of Ronhofs" or "the Beckenbauer the second division," which later earned him a nomination for Fürth "Jahrhundertelf".
Later career
In 1983 Bergmann switched back to TSV 04 Schwabach as a player- coach , where he stayed until 1985. Bernhard Bergmann then went to his youth club TV Eckersmühlen, where he also worked as a player-coach until 1989. From 1997 he coached various youth departments of the club before he stepped in as head coach in September 2006 and stayed until January 2007.
