Bernhard Graser

Johann Bernhard Graser (born April 28, 1841 in Guben ; † February 25, 1909 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German classical philologist and diplomat .

After attending grammar schools in Guben and Torgau , he studied classical philology and theology at the University of Berlin and Halle from 1858 , where he received his doctorate on February 29, 1864. Since June 1864 he was a teacher at the Köllnisches Gymnasium in Berlin. On January 17, 1865 he passed the state examination for the higher teaching post. In 1865/66 he received a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute . His field of research was ancient marine life.

From April 1, 1872, he worked in the Foreign Office . From 1873 to 1875 he was consul in Odessa , from 1875 to 1876 he was acting head of the consulate general in Belgrade and the vice consulate in Sulina . 1876-1880 he was consul in Port-au-Prince . From 1881–1884 he worked in the Foreign Office in Berlin. 1885-1885 he was employed as consul in Montevideo , from 1885 to 1904, when he retired, he was German consul or consul general in Helsingfors . He then taught at the Academy for Social and Commercial Sciences in Frankfurt.
