Bernhard Halbig

Bernhard Halbig (born August 16, 1913 in Eyershausen ; † June 1, 1983 in Paderborn ) was a German bookseller and association official.

Life

Bernhard Halbig, eighth and last child of farmers Peter Halbig and Rosalia Halbig, née. Schnaus, attended the Kilianeum episcopal boys' seminar in Würzburg . Julius Döpfner , later cardinal, was his classmate. After graduating from high school, he completed an apprenticeship as a bookseller at Verlag Schöningh in the Würzburg branch and worked for the publisher in Offenburg, Mainz, Münster and Vienna, most recently in the management of Verlag Schöningh at the headquarters in Paderborn.

After the publishing house was rebuilt after 1945, he set up his own bookstore in 1948. First in Paderborn, three station bookstores followed in Paderborn, Geseke and Lippstadt as well as Bielefeld (1960). In 1954 Bernhard Halbig was elected President of the Catholic Publishers and Booksellers of West Germany , based in Bonn. In 1960 he became the director of a nationwide book cooperative.

In 1954 Halbig was co-founder and founding chairman of the DJK -egelfluggemeinschaft in Paderborn, which merged with the Paderborner Luftsportler in 1970 to form an air sports community. In 1970, Halbig became honorary chairman of the Paderborn air sports community. In 1958, Halbig himself completed his private pilot license .

In 1968 Bernhard Halbig was appointed Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Eugène Cardinal Tisserant and on July 8, 1968 in Munich by Lorenz Cardinal Jaeger , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy, and Hermann Josef Abs , Lieutenant in Germany, in the Order invested.

He had been married to Maria Gepp from Münster since 1940. The marriage resulted in two sons.
