Bernhard Helmich

Bernhard Helmich (born August 13, 1962 in Idar-Oberstein ) is a German theater director .

Life

Bernhard Helmich studied music theater directing with Götz Friedrich as well as literature and musicology in Cologne and Hamburg from 1981 to 1987; in 1989 he received his doctorate there . At times, Helmich took on various assistant directors at the Hamburg State Opera and the Komische Oper Berlin .

From 1989 to 1992 Helmich worked at the Taipei National Theater , held a teaching position at the Fu-Jen Catholic University and worked for the government's cultural department. From 1992 Helmich was a dramaturge at the Trier and Bielefeld theaters . From 1995 to 2001 Helmich was dramaturge and advisor to the general manager at Theater Dortmund . From 2001 to 2005 he was chief dramaturge at the Leipzig Opera and director of the musical comedy.

From 2006 to 2013 Helmich was General Director of the Chemnitz City Theater . During this time the Chemnitz Opera with its general music director Frank Beermann and the theater under the direction of Enrico Lübbe were able to draw attention to themselves with numerous awards and prizes. One focus was the first performances or re-performances of seldom played operas, which were also broadcast on the radio and also published on CD or DVD. For example, Meyerbeer's production “ Vasco da Gama ”, a rarely performed version of the opera “Die Afrikanerin”, was awarded the Classic Echo.

Since August 1, 2013, Helmich has been General Director at the Theater Bonn .

Bernhard Helmich is married to Mei Hong Lin , she has taken over the ballet direction at the Landestheater Linz in Upper Austria since the 2013/2014 season .
