Bernhard Kern

Bernhard Kern (born December 12, 1968 in Freilassing ) is a German CSU politician . From 2014 to 2020 he was mayor of the municipality of Saaldorf-Surheim and has been the district administrator of the district of Berchtesgadener Land (BGL) since May 1, 2020 .

Life

After attending secondary schools in Freilassing, he learned the profession of draftsman in the field of underground road construction and civil engineering and worked in this activity in Traunstein after completing his military service . In 2002, Kern took over an engineering company with three partners, where he left again in 2014 due to his election as mayor of Saaldorf-Surheim.

Political career

In 1995, Kern became a member of the local board of the CSU Saaldorf-Surheim and in 2013 of the district board of the CSU BGL. From 2002, Bernhard Kern was represented in the Saaldorf-Surheim municipal council and was chairman of the CSU Saaldorf-Surheim for 10 years from 2004. In the local elections in 2014 he was elected the new mayor of Saaldorf-Surheim with 62.72% and became a member of the district council of the Berchtesgadener Land district. In 2020 he ran for the CSU as a district administrator candidate for the Berchtesgadener Land district and was able to prevail in the runoff election with 58.73% against his competitor Bartl Wimmer ( Greens ).
