Bernhard Maier (born December 29, 1959 in Schwäbisch Gmünd ) is a German business manager and was CEO of Škoda Auto from November 2015 to July 2020 .

life and career

Maier first completed an apprenticeship as a car mechanic and then studied business administration in Calw . He then passed his motor vehicle master's examination at the Upper Bavaria Chamber of Crafts in Munich. From 1984 he worked as a key account manager at Nixdorf Computer AG . In 1986 Maier switched to Wallhäuser Anlagen Gesellschaft in Siegen . Initially, he worked there as an assistant to the management, and a short time later he became a member of the management. From 1988 to 2001 he took on various management positions at BMW AG in Germany and abroad. Among other things, he was project manager for international brand strategy and later headed the turnaround sales of the Rover Group in Birmingham. Most recently, Maier was director of a branch at BMW AG.

In 2001 Maier switched to Porsche and took over the chairmanship of the management of Porsche Deutschland GmbH.

In March 2010, he took part in the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School , shortly before he was appointed to the board of directors for sales and marketing at Dr. Ing.hc F. Porsche AG was appointed.

In this role, Maier and his colleagues on the Executive Board developed the Porsche Strategy 2018 . The trade and sales organization was fundamentally modernized. At the time, the introduction of a new CRM system that made use of big data and predictive analytics was groundbreaking.

Under his leadership the company succeeded in launching the largest product offensive in the company's history, significantly expanding the international trade organization and raising global customer deliveries from around 79,000 to 240,000 vehicles to a new level.

Bernhard Maier has been CEO of Škoda Auto as since November 1, 2015 and is driving forward the reorientation of the company as part of the 2025+ strategy. In addition to electromobility and digitization, key aspects of the strategy are new mobility services and connectivity, the implementation of a broad-based product offensive and the internationalization of the brand.

On July 31, 2020, Bernhard Maier will step down from his position as CEO at Škoda. His successor is Thomas Schäfer.
