Bernhard Marshal

Bernhard Marschall (born December 25, 1888 in Steele an der Ruhr , † June 22, 1963 in Cologne ) was a Catholic pastor and radio officer of the Catholic Church.

Act

Bernhard Marschall was a Catholic pastor in Gruiten from 1934 to 1962 . In 1945 he was able to convince the then German battalion leader Oberleutnant Johannes Baczewski to hand over the village to the Americans without a fight. The destruction of the village and heavy losses of the civilian population could thus be avoided.

On March 1, 1953, he received the honorary citizenship of the community of Gruiten and in the same year the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class.

Marschall was the Catholic broadcasting officer of the Northwest German Broadcasting Corporation (NWDR) and gave morning speeches there.
