Bernhard Schweinberg

Bernhard Schweinberg (born January 25, 1828 in Mühlhausen ; † October 27, 1902 ) was a German politician and from 1883 to 1894 mayor of Mühlhausen and from 1884 to 1894 a member of the Prussian mansion .

Life

Schweineberg studied at the Universities of Halle and Göttingen law . In 1846 he became a member of the Corps Borussia Halle . In 1847 he joined the Corps Frisia Göttingen . He was promoted to Dr. jur. did his doctorate and graduated with a trainee exam. In 1858 he was elected Mühlhausen's first paid city councilor. In the year of his 25th anniversary in office, on January 10, 1883, he became the first mayor of Mühlhausen, succeeding Karl Engelhart , who was leaving at his own request . In addition, from 1894 he took over the representation of Mühlhausen in the Prussian manor from Engelhart. On July 24, 1887, Schweinberg received the right to use the title of Lord Mayor. In 1891, on the occasion of a coronation and order festival on the 20th anniversary of the founding of the empire , he was awarded the 4th class Red Eagle Order . He was a member of the Mühlhausen Freemason Lodge Hermann for German Loyalty and at times its master of the chair . On October 1, 1894, he retired at his own request for health reasons. In the same year he received honorary citizenship of his hometown. He was succeeded by August Lentze . For more than 60 years, Schweinberg was to be the last native of Mühlhausen to hold the office of mayor / lord mayor. Eight years after his retirement, on October 27, 1902, Bernhard Schweinberg died at the age of 74.

Trivia

In 1892, the bottom hole in the Popperöder well house , which is used for the public water supply, was sealed. The resulting hill was later popularly known as the "Pig Mountain".
