Bernhard Weiß (born September 1, 1964 in Dortmund ) is known as a rock musician and singer in the heavy metal / hard rock band Axxis .

Life

Bernhard Weiß grew up in Lünen . After graduating from secondary school, he completed an apprenticeship as a former at what was then Eisenhütte Westfalia . After passing the journeyman's examination and the subsequent technical diploma, he studied foundry technology for three semesters at the University of Duisburg . In 1989 he broke off his studies because a worldwide record deal between EMI Electrola and his band Axxis was closed.

Musical career

Parallel to his school career, he continued his musical education and played in local bands. After initially classical guitar training, his interest in the electric guitar was aroused. Shortly afterwards he founded the punk band Shift In , which enjoyed local success. Since no singer was found, Bernhard took on the role of the singer for the time being. At the same time he took singing lessons and continued to train privately in the field.

When another band from Lünen called Anvil , already established at the time , was looking for a singer, they became aware of Bernhard. He got in and they worked on their career together. The band name had to be changed with regard to the already existing Canadian heavy metal formation Anvil . From now on the band was called Axxis - the axis around which everything should revolve in the future.

With youth festivals like Pop am Rhein in the Philipshalle in Düsseldorf or the Metal Hammer Youth Festival in the Rockfabrik Ludwigsburg , the band fought for a good reputation, which however remained underground. It was only through contact with Hermes Studios in Kamen that Axxis was able to record her songs. Since keyboards were still frowned upon in the band, Bernhard recorded a keyboard-heavy song called Tears of the Trees with a friend. This song was produced in Hermes Studios and found its way to EMI Electrola in Cologne, which immediately offered the band a record deal.

Bernhard broke off his studies and produced the Axxis debut album Kingdom of the Night with his band colleagues Walter Pietsch and Rolf Hanekamp in 1989 , which was to become the best-selling hard rock debut album of all time in Germany. Then he played a successful European tour with Black Sabbath with AXXIS and was booked with his band at many festivals over the years: Wacken , Rock am Ring , Rock im Park, Schwedenrock , Metalway and Rockmachina Festival in Spain, Masters of Rock in the Czech Republic, etc. He completed concerts and tours with Krokus , Kamelot, Gorky Park, Accept , Motörhead , Pink Cream 69 and many more and worked with music producers such as Rolf Hanekamp, Keith Olsen ( Whitesnake ), Michael Wagener (Accept, Dokken etc.), Joey Balin ( Warlock , Brings ) etc. together.

In 1996 he founded the Soundworxx recording studio in Bergkamen . From 2000 onwards, all Axxis albums were recorded and produced in-house. In the same year he and his band mates founded the music publisher Phonotraxx Publishing and years later the label Phonotraxx , on which the first real bootleg DVD of a band was released.

In his private life he is involved in the youth scene and in school projects in the Unna district . The city of Lünen awarded him the city's culture award in 2016.
