Bernhard Zimmerhofer (born October 31, 1963 in Luttach ) is a South Tyrolean politician.

biography

Zimmerhofer, who works as an employee, was persuaded by his brother-in-law, mountaineer Alois Brugger, to become politically active in the South Tyrolean People's Party (SVP) and immediately elected to the Ahrntal municipal council. After Brugger's death in 2006 in the Himalayas , he increasingly distanced himself from the SVP and stood in the 2010 municipal council elections for the South Tyrolean Freedom , which thanks to Zimmerhofer's efforts was able to increase the number of its seats from one to six.

In the state elections in 2013 Zimmerhofer was able to unite the third most preferential votes on the list of South Tyrolean Freedom and win a remaining mandate for the state parliament and regional council . His main focus was on national politics and the propagation of the right to self-determination for South Tyrol. In the context of the state elections in 2018 , South Tyrolean Freedom suffered a loss of votes and Zimmerhofer missed re-election with 3,324 preferential votes.
