Bernhard "Bernie" Rieder (born January 11, 1975 in Purbach ) is an Austrian cook and cookbook author.

Life and career

Rieder grew up on a farm with his maternal grandmother in Purbach am Neusiedler See (Burgenland). He spent the holidays and weekends with his paternal grandmother in Neuhaus in Triestingtal (Lower Austria).

Since his father was already earning his living as a cook and Rieder, according to his own statements , wanted to pursue "a trade in which you can be creative every day" , his career path was practically mapped out.

He initially worked in the Eselmühl restaurant in St. Margarethen , later in Reinhard Gerer's "Korso" as "chef de partie". His other stations were the "Inamera" ( Rust ), the "Kremsmünsterer Stuben" ( Linz ), the "Taubenkobel" (Schützen), "Ikarus" in Hangar 7 ( Salzburg ), the "Perkeo" ( Salzburg ) and the " Count Hunyady "( Vienna ). He then worked for three years as head chef at "Das Turm", after which it closed in February 2009, he worked in "Freiraum". In 2010 he cooked in the Lobsterdock, at the Cirque à la Carte in the event pyramid Vösendorf and at the Cirque Nouvel in the Arena Nova ( Wiener Neustadt ). Rieder was able to "cook out" "hoods" at all of his stations.

The Burgenlander worked at his stations a. a. with Roland Neubauer, Christian Sponring, Reinhard Gerer , Christian Meister, Hermann Huber, Roland Trettl and Eckart Witzigmann .

Since 2012 the brewery "Rieder Bier" from Ried im Innkreis has been selling a wheat beer creation by Bernie Rieder (Bernie.Rieder Weiss.Bier)

Bernie Rieder has been Helmut Österreicher's successor in the "Österreicher" restaurant at the MAK since June 2013 .

Television career

In 2008 Rieder presented his own TV show "Wild Cooking" on ORF . Afterwards he was a guest in the formats " The Race " (2009), " Das Match " (2010), " Austria chooses " (2011) and "Hirn mit Ei" (2011).

Publications

Rieder published his first cookery book in 2011: In "Oma.Koch.Buch" ( Braumüller Verlag ) he presents classic home-style cooking as served by his grandmothers and reinterprets some of these dishes.

In November 2014 his second work "Austrian Cuisine reloaded" was published.

Private life

Rieder has been married since September 2013. He has a son (* 2011) from a previous marriage, and he is the stepfather of a child (* 2003) that his wife brought into the marriage. On January 13, 2014, Rieder and his wife became parents of a son again.

Curiosity

In 1998 he received a "toque" for his "rack of lamb with spinach and baked bean strudel ". Ironically, Rieder doesn't eat lamb and therefore never tasted his own dish. He also had his grandmother prepare the highly praised bean strudel.
