Helmut Österreicher (born March 10, 1956 ) is an Austrian cook and restaurateur .

Life

An Austrian completed his apprenticeship as a chef in the Waldviertel Hotel Haberl in Waidhofen an der Thaya . Several years after his apprenticeship, the young, committed chef was already Gardemanger at the Hotel Sacher in Vienna .

From 1978 he was the head chef (“Chef de Cuisine”) at “ Restaurant Steirereck” for 28 years , where he cooked in the style of nouvelle cuisine . Owners of the Steirereck are the couple Heinz and Margaret Reitbauer (1996 also opened the inn "at Steirereck Pogusch "). Initially, the Steirereck was in the 3rd district of Vienna , at the corner of Rasumofskygasse / Weißgerberlände, and in 2002 the move to the Vienna City Park , "Restaurant Steirereck - Meierei im Stadtpark" began . The project dragged on, and only at the beginning of January 2005 did the restaurant open with a daring, modern aesthetic. Five million euros have been invested for this. It was also new that the son of the restaurant owner, Heinz Reitbauer junior, was another chef at the stove.

From 2005 to the end of 2012 he was head chef of the (Gourmet Group) restaurants “Österreicher im MAK” in the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna and “Österreicher im Rathauskeller” , which is located in the basement of the Vienna City Hall . In addition, if there was time to spare, he served an exquisite five-course menu for the guests on board on Danube Touristik ships , such as the MS Kaiserin Elisabeth . Or has been supporting budding cooks at the Hertha Firnberg Schools for Business and Tourism in Vienna since 2013 .

In an interview with the newspaper Der Standard in October 2012, he said: "The time as a chef is over - in the future it will be about conception and recipes!"

He is married and has three grown sons.
