The Beroflex Camera Film Aktiengesellschaft was a resident of Berlin and Bad Kissingen trading company that primarily photo equipment from the GDR in West Germany sold. Until 1990, Beroflex was the most important importer of the Praktica brand SLR cameras manufactured by Pentacon to West Germany. The films of the "Ost-Agfa" ORWO were also distributed through Beroflex. The company was one of the leading wholesalers in the photographic industry in the 1980s thanks to the competitive prices for cameras - also in comparison with the Far Eastern competition at the time. The then Beroflex managing director Heinrich Manderman bought a number of traditional companies in the German optical industry in the 1980s and 1990s. For example, Mandermann was the (temporary) owner of Rollei and ORWO. Even today (2011) Schneider Kreuznach and Pentacon GmbH belong to the Mandermann family group.

Beroflex is also a word mark registered under the number 388836 from 1991 to 2011 and deposited by Beroflex AG .

Company history

Heinrich Manderman

In 1969 Beroflex was founded by the German sales partners of the GDR company Kombinat VEB Pentacon , Dresden. The management was with two shareholders, Heinrich Manderman and Herbert Köhler. Beroflex AG was entered in the commercial register of the Canton of Zurich on November 27, 1969 . The purpose of Beroflex AG was to manufacture, trade, import and export phototechnical and photochemical products.

The company name of Beroflex AG was changed to ABZ Holding AG , Freienstein, in January 1992 , later to DSI Holding AG , which was again domiciled in Zurich. In December 1996 the Zurich District Court declared DSI Holding bankrupt; the company was dissolved. The bankruptcy proceedings were discontinued in May 1997 for lack of assets. In 2000 the DSI Holding AG was deleted in liquidation . The holding company had a capital of 1 million Swiss francs.

In addition to Pentacon products, there were also some other items, including a. Flash units. The very reasonably priced Beroflex 5.6 / 300 mm, 6.3 / 400 mm and, above all, 8.0 / 500 mm telephoto lenses , known as the “ surprise bag ”, became particularly well known. However, these lenses came from Far Eastern production. The own brand "Beroquick" stood for a small format viewfinder camera, actually a "Beirette" of VEB Kamerawerke Freital .
