Bertha Antonia Wallner

Bertha Antonia Wallner (born August 20, 1876 in Munich ; † October 29, 1956 there ) was a German musicologist .

Life

Born in Munich as the daughter of the Justice Council Andreas Wallner, she graduated from high school and university there . After first striving for school service and taking the teacher examination, she devoted herself to musicology and studied with Adolf Sandberger , who became her mentor and who employed her at the Society for the Publication of Monuments of Music in Bavaria . In 1910 she did her doctorate with him on musical monuments of the stone etching art of the 16th and 17th centuries . From 1942 to 1945 she was employed at the Salzburg Mozarteum .

Wallner was one of the earliest female musicologists who could make a certain career within the then completely male-dominated subject. In addition to her work in the publication of the monuments of music art in Bavaria, she also worked as an editor for the monuments of German music art . In addition to editorial tasks, she devoted herself particularly to source research and Munich's local history.
