Monuments to German Music , Volume 1

Monuments of German Tonkunst is a music-historical edition of historical music from Germany from the baroque to the classical .

history

The Edition Monuments of German Music Art was founded in 1892 by Philipp Spitta . A total of 65 volumes were published from 1892 to 1931. The publisher was the Prussian Music History Commission and its subsequent institutions under the respective direction of Rochus von Liliencron , Hermann Kretzschmar , Hermann Abert and Arnold Schering . The edition guidelines demanded strict adherence to the source and reproduction of the original score arrangement.

During the National Socialist regime , the publication was continued in the source publication Das Erbe deutscher Musik , founded in 1933 . The Music History Commission , founded in 1953, has taken on the task of following up on the previous tradition of German musical source publications.

The documentaries consist of the first series, Monuments of German Music and the second series, Monuments of Music in Bavaria . A comparable series of Austrian composers are the monuments of music art in Austria .
