Florian Johann Deller

Florian Johann Deller (baptized May 2, 1729 in Drosendorf an der Thaya (Lower Austria); † September 19, 1773 in Munich ) was a German-Austrian composer and violinist.

In 1751 he joined the court orchestra in Stuttgart as a violinist . Here he received lessons from the director of the court opera there, Niccolò Jommelli . He later became assistant to the ballet master Jean Georges Noverre and composed his first opera and ballets. In 1769 he was appointed concertmaster and “court composer” at the Stuttgart court. A short time later he went to Vienna, where he worked at the Burgtheater there. Deller died in 1773 in the monastery of the Merciful Brothers in Munich.

His compositional work mainly includes operas , ballet music , sonatas and minuets . During his lifetime he enjoyed a high reputation as a composer. His works were u. a. appreciated by Mozart and Christian Friedrich Daniel Schubart . Many of his works are considered lost.
