Johann Rudolph Ahle
Johann Rudolph Ahle , also Johann Rudolf Ahle (* December 24, 1625 in Mühlhausen / Thuringia ; † July 9, 1673 there ) was a German composer , organist , poet and Protestant church musician.
Life
Ahle came from a merchant family. He completed his school days in Mühlhausen and Göttingen and finally studied at the Philosophical Faculty in Erfurt. There he officiated from 1646 as cantor at the Andreaskirche. After his return to Mühlhausen in 1649 he worked as a freelance musician until 1654 he was appointed organist at the main church Divi Blasii. From 1655 he held numerous municipal offices as a member of the city council and was elected mayor of the Free Imperial City in the year of his death. After his return to Mühlhausen in 1649, Ahle married Anna Maria Wölfer in 1650. Their son Johann Georg Ahle , born in 1650, also made a name for himself as a composer and organist and, like his father, was also active as a poet. After his death he succeeded him as organist at the Divi Blasii church.
Works
Ahles' extensive oeuvre is almost entirely preserved in contemporary prints and includes sacred vocal music (concerts, motets, arias), organ music, secular instrumental works and a music-theoretical work. In addition to his own songs and poems, he set poems by Johann Vockerodt , Ludwig Stark and Franz Joachim Burmeister to music and wrote the texts of numerous sacred songs.
