Liebhold (t) († around 1730 near Gotha ) was a German composer. His first name and his life dates are unknown. According to the musicologist and Liebhold contemporary Johann Gottfried Walther , Liebhold was a "raw person, only stayed in the villages, did not go to any church, did not enjoy the Sacra". He also played the violin and the French horn . He also emerged as a lyricist. Walther reports that Liebhold froze to death near Gotha around 1730.

Works

Measured by his level of fame, von Liebhold has received an extraordinarily large amount of sacred vocal music. A total of 130 cantatas and 22  motets can be found in various libraries and church archives  . Liebhold's compositional style is simple, almost naive, and is characterized by a sometimes very colorful instrumentation. Among other things, he used rather seldom found instruments in church music in the early 18th century, such as B. French horn, Corno per force , Corno da Caccia or Clarino sourdino . Liebhold's compositional talent was not valued particularly highly in the 18th century. On the copy of one of his cantatas there is the following note, made by the Brunswick palace cantor Heinrich Bokemeyer: “A sample of the composition of a certain Liebhold, who had no permanent position, Clauseln collected a. the same after St. Telemann's sayings, unfortunate. glued together.
