Bertha Crowther

Bertha Crowther (born as Bertha Piggott ; * December 9, 1921 ; † August 8, 2007 in London ) was an English athlete who became European pentathlon champion in 1950 .

In 1946 Bertha Crowther became the British champion in the 80-meter hurdles . At the Olympic Games in London in 1948 , she was eliminated in advance of the hurdles. In the high jump she reached the final and finished sixth with 1.58 m. In 1949 the women's pentathlon was held for the first time at the British Championships and Crowther won the competition, in 1950 she was able to defend this title.

The pentathlon was not played at the British Empire Games 1950 . Crowther was second in the high jump with 1.60 m behind her compatriot Dorothy Tyler . Crowther finished ninth in the long jump and fifth out of five participants in the javelin throw. At the European Championships in Brussels in 1950 , however, the pentathlon was on the program. The French Arlette Ben Hamo won with 3204 points ahead of Bertha Crowther with 3048 points (3409 points according to today's table). In the high jump, Crowther was fifth with 1.55 m.

With a height of 1.74 m, her competition weight was 63 kg.
