Berthold F. Weber

Berthold F. Weber (born May 11, 1954 , † August 22, 2005 in Milet ) was a German architect and building researcher .

Life

From 1977 Berthold Weber studied architecture, archeology, building history and monument preservation at the universities in Mainz and Darmstadt. Even as a student he took part in excavations by the German Archaeological Institute , from 1979 to 1981 in Priene and from 1980 in Miletus . In 1985/86 he received a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute . From 1985 to 1991 he was Gottfried Gruben's assistant at the chair for building history, building form theory and recording of buildings at the Technical University of Munich , where he received his doctorate in 1993 with a thesis on the "Roman Heroa of Miletus". He then worked as a research assistant at the German Archaeological Institute in Istanbul .

Since 1997 Weber has been in charge of the restoration work on the Roman theater in Miletus. From 2001 he was employed as a research assistant at the Institute for Archaeological Sciences at the University of Bochum , which enabled him to continue his research in Miletus . Weber was killed in an accident during the 2005 excavation campaign in Miletus.
