Bertold von Neifen

Bertold von Neifen († 1224 in Brixen ) was Bishop of Brixen .

Bertold von Neifen came from the Swabian noble family of the Lords of Neuffen . 1208 he was Vizedom (governor) of the Prince Bishop of Trento and 1212 prothonotary (office director) of the Roman-German King Frederick II. Already in 1213 Friedrich sent him on a political mission to Italy again. In 1215 he became provost in Speyer . Under the influence of the Hohenstaufen he was elected Prince-Bishop of Brixen by the cathedral chapter in 1217.

From 1218 to 1220 he took part in the Damiette crusade , was represented in the diocese by a governor and was only ordained a bishop after his return. In 1220 he accompanied Frederick II to Rome for his coronation as emperor.

Bishop Bertold died in Brixen in 1224.
