Hasenauer's pictorial creations deal mainly with human figures, which are depicted in front of a monochrome , white or dark background, but also with landscapes as well as date and text images. Hasenauer offers a finely differentiated view of the nature of the young people he portrays. The spontaneous and dynamic has given way. The figures appear androgynous and seem to float in space, which gives them something super-real. “What at first appears like a portrait turns out to be the idea of a possible portrayed figure; What appears to be the image of a human figure immediately disappears into the vague spheres of memory of a figure. ”Hasenauer sometimes uses pictures from magazines and magazines as working material. He applies the paint like a thin film to a finely structured primer. The portrayed appear melancholy and waiting.

“In the case of Bertram Hasenauer and his prop-free world, the term“ magical realism ”can be expanded to include the spiral of the enigmatic: in that his works favor the puzzling aspect of human existence over its merely and tolerably magical character, i.e. instead of an ode to the magical power of Talking, whispering things of a subtly formulated remnant of ambiguity, which should make up the real charm and attraction of existence. In an inexplicable mystery of the world and being in us, around us and around us, which can be determined again and again. "

The image of man becomes anonymous, a distance from the viewer, no direct communication takes place. He has his own position within the new pictorial figuration: He does not tell stories, documents a moment at a time.
