Beryllium sulfite is a chemical compound of beryllium from the group of sulfites .
Extraction and presentation
Beryllium sulfite can be obtained by dissolving beryllium hydroxide in alcohol saturated with sulfur dioxide . If the solution is evaporated over sulfuric acid or in vacuo over potassium hydroxide , a white precipitate of beryllium sulfite is formed.

Beryllium sulfite is a white solid that is only stable in dry air. In moist air it attracts water and hydrolyzes quickly. On contact with water, decomposition takes place with elimination of sulfur dioxide. It slowly dissolves in alcohol. Since there are no scientific studies and literature on the compound, the existence of the compound (and compounds such as beryllium bisulfite or basic beryllium sulfite) in pure form is not guaranteed.
