Tactical deployment shield

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A protective shield or tactical deployment shield protects members of special police units or the military from objects to be thrown and light projectiles. Shields are part of the so-called passive armament ; there are long and short forms.

Special units

These are used by special units , for example many anti-terrorist units carry strong, armored full-body shields with them, which are supposed to protect the front man of the special unit from projectiles and fragments in the event of a house storm . Such shields often have a viewing window so that the officer can still see what is going on in front of the shield. As a rule, this type of deployment shield is only worn in conjunction with ballistic vests and deployment helmets , as the danger of ricochets etc. cannot be averted by the shield alone.

Riot police

The shields used by the police during demonstrations and street battles also belong to the category of operational shields. These protective shields are often completely transparent, made of plexiglass and lighter than the shields that are used when storming houses. They are mainly used to protect against stones, bottles, Molotov cocktails, and other throwables. On some models, batons can be attached to the inside of the protective shields (on the side facing the officer) so that they can be reached quickly in an emergency. In this case, too, the wearers of the shields are equipped with protective vests, knee and joint protectors and helmets with visors.
