Bessie Brown
Bessie Brown (* 1895 in Cleveland ; † 1955 ; also known as "The Original" Bessie Brown ) was an American jazz and blues singer.
In the 1920s, Brown appeared in several revues as a singer and travesty artist . Her first record was published by Pathé in 1925 , followed by twenty-three more by 1929. She was accompanied on her recordings by well-known musicians such as Thomas Morris , Rex Stewart , Charlie Irvis , Charlie Green , Coleman Hawkins , Buster Bailey , Clarence Holiday , Clarence Williams and Fletcher Henderson . Some of her plays have been released under the pseudonyms Sadie Green and Caroline Lee .
Brown retired from show business in 1932 and died of a heart attack in 1955. She had three children.
