Clarence Holiday
Clarence Halliday (* 1898 , † 23. February 1937 in Dallas ) called: Clarence Holiday was an American jazz - guitarist and father of singer Billie Holiday .
Life
Clarence Holiday is remembered primarily as the father of Billie Holiday; however, he was never married to Billie's mother, Sadie. Holiday first played the banjo as a teenager , lived in Baltimore around 1914 and served briefly in the US Army in 1918. After the war he played with Russell Procope in Philadelphia in 1922 and with his own formation in 1923, including Benny Morton ; then he was rhythm guitarist in Fletcher Henderson's orchestra (1928–33). He then also worked on recordings by Benny Carter (1934) and Bob Howard (1935) and worked with Charlie Turner (1935), Louis Metcalf (1935/36) and shortly before his untimely death in the Don Redman Big Band (1936 / 37). He died of influenza pneumonia, which he contracted while touring with Redman in the southern United States.
