Bessie rodent

Beatrice "Bessie" Nager (born September 1, 1962 in Lucerne ; † January 25, 2009 in Langnau am Albis near Zurich ) was a Swiss artist.

Life

After finishing school in Lucerne, Bessie Nager studied art history at the University of Zurich and fine arts at the F + F School for Experimental Design and the University of Design and Art Zurich (graduated in 1991). Since her studies she has worked as a design teacher, first at the “Farbmühle Luzern” and later at various art schools.

In her work, Bessie Nager dealt with the relationship between people and the space around them and thus with spaces where people come together. She continuously registered and visualized transitions and changes in this relationship based on topics such as travel and migration, public spaces and means of transport. Her installations often involved the audience physically and invited them to use or inspect them: step on huge soft cushions, "swim" in styrofoam floods, balance between collections of bottles or climb models of trams.

In dealing with art history and literature, Bessie Nager created situations with a wide variety of formal means of expression (videos, installations, sculptures, etc.) and in numerous exhibitions that invite the viewer to reflect on his experience.

Bessie Nager has served on many juries for art projects and sponsorship awards. From 1998 to 2006 she worked on the «Art Commission of the City of Zurich» and since 2005 in the program commission and on the board of the Kunsthaus Zürich .

On January 25, 2009, Bessie Nager died in a car accident.
