Beta Doradus ( β Dor for short ) is the second brightest star in the Swordfish constellation in the southern night sky . The star is one of the brightest Cepheid variables in the night sky. The brightness of the yellow supergiant , a good 1000 light-years away, fluctuates between 3.46 mag and 4.08 mag with a period of 9.8426 days.
