Beta Gamma Sigma
Beta Gamma Sigma ( ΒΓΣ ) is an international honor society for graduates and professors of economics. The aim of Beta Gamma Sigma is to encourage and recognize academic achievement in the field of economics, to encourage members to respect the values of Beta Gamma Sigma (honor, integrity, wisdom and seriousness) and to promote economic thinking and lifelong learning. Another important area is ethics support in business. With around 725,000 members in over 530 groups at AACSB -accredited business schools, Beta Gamma Sigma is the largest graduate organization in the field of economics.

Beta Gamma Sigma was created in 1913 from the merger of a student fraternity founded in 1907 by business students at the University of Wisconsin – Madison with the fraternity Delta Kappa Chi (1910) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and The Economics Club (1906) at the university of California, Berkeley . After these 3 beta-gamma-sigma groups, the first others emerged at the University of Pennsylvania (1916), Columbia University (1917), University of Georgia (1918) and the University of Washington (1918). From 1933 women were admitted.

Originally founded as a US organization, there are now groups around the world at business schools in Egypt , Australia , Brazil , the People's Republic of China , Germany , France , Great Britain , Hong Kong , Israel , Canada , Lebanon , Mexico , New Zealand , the Netherlands , Peru and Switzerland , Singapore , Slovenia , Spain , South Korea , Taiwan , Turkey , and the UAE . Beta Gamma Sigma members live in over 160 countries worldwide. There are also 30 alumni groups in major US cities as well as in Germany, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Canada, New Zealand, Peru, Switzerland and Spain.
In Germany, Beta Gamma Sigma has been represented at the Leipzig Graduate School of Management (HHL) since 2004 , at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main since 2010, at the Pforzheim University since 2014 and at the Westphalian Wilhelms University since 2016 . A North German and a Central / South German alumni chapter had existed since 2011/12. In January 2018, both were merged (under new management) to form a central, Germany-wide alumni chapter.
In Switzerland, Beta Gamma Sigma has been active at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (School of Management and Law) and with an alumni chapter since 2016 .

The best students in an economics degree are admitted as members (top 10% of a bachelor's degree and top 20% of a master's degree). Membership is lifelong. New members are accepted during an induction ceremony during which new members are sworn to the ideals of the organization.
Beta Gamma Sigma is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies , the Federation of Business Honor Societies and the AACSB .
