Betadevario ramachandrani is a freshwater fish from the carp family that is endemic to the upper Sita River in the Indian state of Karnataka . The generic name Betadevario firstly emphasizes the similarity and relationship with the genus Devario and here means something like "second Devario". Second, it honors the catcher of theBeta Mahatvaraj type specimens . The species epithet ramachandrani was given in honor of Alappat Ramachandran, professor at the Cochin University of Science and Technology.
The site is a fast flowing river 2.30 meters wide, about 30 cm deep, waterfalls and shallows. The type site is located at an altitude of 558 m above sea level in a rainy area. The water temperature on December 16, 2007 at 12:45 p.m. was 18.9 ° C, the pH was 6.4.
features
Betadevario ramachandrani has an elongated, laterally flattened body and becomes 6 cm long. Its back is blue-green, the rest of the abdomen is silvery. A light gold-yellow vertical stripe runs along the sides, below a dark, deep blue one. The fins are yellowish, the outer area of the dorsal fin is bluish. The caudal fin shows some dark stripes. In contrast to Devario , Betadevario has two pairs of long barbels ( Devario no or only rudimentary) and a wider shoulder patch that extends lengthways over three scales (only one in Devario ).

Systematics
Betadevario ramachandrani belongs to the subfamily of the danios within the carp fish and is probably the sister genus of Devario or that of Devario and Microrasbora .
