Bethanienkirche

The Bethanienkirche is an Evangelical Lutheran church in Munich - Feldmoching . The name is derived from the biblical place Bethanien . It was inaugurated on July 12, 1964. The parish fair takes place annually on the second Sunday in July.

The church is part of the Feldmoching-Hasenbergl cultural history trail .

history

The property on the church, parish hall and rectory was donated by Ms. Kunigunde Griffel from Feldmoching. Since 1931 they met in Ms. Kunigunde Griffel's house in Eberhartstrasse. 11 (on the opposite side of the street) regularly evangelical church members as house church. In 1936, Ms. Griffel donated this house and the property opposite to the entire parish of Munich and a prayer room for church services was set up in the house. Church services have been held in this prayer room every Sunday since 1948. In view of the growing number of parishioners, the aim was to build a church on the property at Eberhartstrasse 10.

architecture

The church building with the associated parish hall and rectory was built in 1963-64, the architect was Johannes Ludwig . Architect Christian Parche was responsible for building supervision and Heinrich Nagelschneider was responsible for construction. The appearance of the church with the 20 m high steeple is determined by the exposed brickwork made of hard-fired Lochhauser bricks. This gives the entire ensemble a Nordic character. The church has 140 seats. The lower tower room right next to the foyer is intended as a working day chapel.

Bells

The three bells in the church tower bear the names of the Bethanien siblings: Lazarus (102 cm diameter, 620 kg), Maria (87 cm diameter, 370 kg) and Martha (76 cm diameter, 260 kg). These are coordinated with the Roman Catholic St. Peter and Paul Church as part of the ecumenical movement .

inner space

The worship room is kept simple and clearly structured. Baptismal font , altar and pulpit as places of the sacraments ( baptism and communion ) and the word of God stand side by side with equal rights.

Altar cross

There is a large, golden-patinated wooden cross above the altar. It was designed by the sculptor Karlheinz Hoffmann and hung up in 1984 on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the parish fair. It served as a template for the parish logo, which was introduced in 2002. Before the redesign in 1984, the altar carried a dark altar cross (black iron and rock crystal). The former altar cross and the altar candlesticks, which are still in use, were created by Herbert Altmann.

Window behind the font

The concrete glass window above the font - by Alpheda Puluj-Hohenthal - presents the elements of spirit (symbolized in the dove), fire and water in a dynamic relationship.

Light tree

The light tree to the left of the font was designed by Waldemar Martin in 1998 and manufactured by Gustav Stolz. The plan shows a sun with six sun rays and the six corners of the Star of David . 12 candles structure the corner points. A total of 24 candles spiral upwards in a life spiral.
