St. Peter and Paul is a Roman Catholic church at Feldmochinger Straße 403 in the center of Munich - Feldmoching .

history

The original parish of St. Peter and Paul is the oldest parish in the north of Munich. It was first mentioned in a document between 805 and 808 with "Ratolt presbiter zu Feldmohingun" ( Ratolt, priest of Feldmoching ). Another priest is occupied on April 15, 815 with "Liutfridi presbiteri ad Feldmochinga". It belonged to the Wittelsbach district court of Dachau and extended in the north to Mittenheim , in the northeast to Garching and in the south to Sendling .

At the beginning of the 1890s, the church was fundamentally rebuilt and expanded in the neo-Gothic style. The design was created by the Munich architect Johann Marggraff , whose studio also provided the interior. The glass windows were made by Syrius Eberle . The consecration of the church "in honorem SS. Apostolorum Petri et Pauli" by the Munich Archbishop Antonius von Thoma was on September 1, 1895. In 1938 the church was restored. Another renovation was carried out in 1959. At that time the nave was demolished, the tower and the altar porch remained. With the reconstruction by the architect Karl Dressel, the church space was significantly enlarged. The consecration took place on June 5, 1960 by Archbishop Joseph Wendel . During the tenure of Pastor Ignaz Blenninger, the presbytery was rebuilt in 1967 , and in 1969 the sculptor Reinhold Grübl created a new altar from red Veronese marble with outstanding reliefs on all four sides and the ambo to the left of the altar . The altar was consecrated on January 18, 1960 by Cardinal Julius Döpfner . In 1970 Grübl also created a new tabernacle made of gray Marchinger marble.

To the west of the church is the Feldmoching cemetery . St. Peter and Paul is a place on the cultural history trails in Munich .
