The Chörau prayer house is the evangelical sacred building of Chörau in the unified community Easterienburger Land in the district of Anhalt-Bitterfeld in Saxony-Anhalt . The sacred building is under monument protection and is entered in the monument register with registration number 094 18165 as a monument . The Chörauer parish belongs to the parish area Aken / Elbe and Saale-Elbe-Winkel in the parish of Egeln of the Evangelical Church of Central Germany .

In the village center of Chörau on a square that forms the village street. To the east of the church is the Chörau war memorial .

History and architecture

Prayer houses are a simpler form of church building . The lack of a bell tower is typical, which is also the case in Chörau. The simplicity of the building is explained by the fact that the place was only gradually repopulated with colonists. Since the Magdeburg Domain Treasury could not finance the construction of a church, an agreement was reached on a prayer house. This was inaugurated in 1790. The small church combines forms of baroque and classicism and is stylistically strongly influenced by Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff . But it could not be clearly attributed to him. Pilasters structure the facade of the almost square building, which is crowned by a hipped roof. In the gable hangs a bell from 1793, which was cast by the bell caster Becker from Halle.

Interior and outfit

Inside there is an Eduard Zuberbier organ from 1857. As is typical for classical buildings, there is no jewelry inside. The room has a flat ceiling and a west gallery, two windows each are combined in a round arch niche. In the church there is the picture cycle Everything has its time by the Koethen painter Steffen Rogge.
