Bethlehem Church (Spandowerhagen)
The Bethlehem church is a religious building in Krösliner district Spandowerhagen in the Vorpommern-Greifswald in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Germany).
history
The parish council of Lubmin purchased a piece of land with a barn on September 22, 1958 , which was previously used by a local fisherman and farmer. The building was converted into a church over the next few years. The inauguration took place on November 26, 1966. With the construction of the nuclear power plant in Lubmin , the Spandowerhagen district was separated from through traffic, making it difficult to get to the church service . In the course of the next few years the building was gradually expanded so that in 1980 a church room could be inaugurated in the left part of the barn . It is said that on the day of the inauguration they wanted to ring a former ship's bell on the east wall, but the rope broke. In 1988 a new bell was installed. With the renovation in 1991 it was finally given the current name Bethlehem Church . This is intended - based on the original use - to be remembered of the stable of Bethlehem .
architecture
The simple character of the building has been preserved to this day. Most of the facade is painted white, which contrasts with a gray-painted plinth. At the front, the right third and the upper area are clad with brown wooden slats. Access is through a simple wooden door, above which a blue sign is affixed, on which “Bethlehem Church” can be seen in white letters. In addition to the door, only two asymmetrically mounted windows form the facade. At the apse there is a simple wooden cross, next to it the manually operated bell and four rectangular wooden windows underneath without any further decorations. The design of the front is taken up on the south side, which opens onto a garden. Here is a window made of colored glass stones as the only decoration of the building that is visible from the outside.
