Spandowerhagen is a district of the municipality of Kröslin in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). It is administered by the Lubmin Office based in the municipality of the same name .

geography

The district is located north of Freest and borders the Peenestrom in the east . The Struck peninsula joins in the north , which in turn borders the Greifswalder Bodden . In the west is the municipality of Lubmin.

history

The history of the place is closely connected to the village of Nonnendorf , which belongs to Rubenow in the 21st century . Mentioned for the first time in 1193, the settlement was a gift to the Bergen monastery on Rügen . So with the help of the Spandow family of settlers, the Nonnendorfer built a Vorwerk , Spandowerhagen. The farm was later expanded into an estate. The farm, which was converted into a forest farm after 1900, is already shown in the Swedish survey of Western Pomerania and on the Prussian original measurement table from 1835.

The residents of Spandowerhagen lived primarily from fishing and agriculture . From 1897 onwards, the Greifswald – Wolgast small railway in neighboring Freest ensured that the fish were transported away quickly . A school building was also built there in 1915. After the end of the Second World War , resettlers came to the region and led to a significant increase in the population.

In the 1960s, the GDR built the Greifswald nuclear power plant and built a cooling water channel that separated the Struck peninsula from the remaining municipalities except for a transition. Spandowerhagen became a restricted area and could only be reached via a country road from the south. There was a connection in the direction of the power station via Landstrasse 262, but it was closed to the public. This also led to the fact that the parish council of Lubmin purchased a piece of land with a barn on September 22, 1958 , in order to convert the building into a church over the following years. The consecration took place on November 26, 1966; a renovation in 1991. In the course of the conversion of the nuclear power plant and the expansion of the Lubmin marina , through traffic in Spandowerhagen increased considerably. In 2013, the community built a bypass road so that the village has been accessible via two junctions on Dorfstraße since then .
