(Map) Lighthouse with outbuildings The foundation stone was laid on August 24, 1853 by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia. The 38.6 m high, octagonal tower was officially put into operation on October 1, 1855. To this day, with a range of 26 nautical miles (around 50 kilometers), it is the brightest lighthouse in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and has left-rotating optics with a flash return of 3.8 seconds.
