Raimundo Roberto Morhy Barbosa (born February 27, 1955 in Belém , Pará ) is a Brazilian Lambada singer and composer.

Life

Beto Barbosa comes from a Lebanese family and began a musical career in his hometown of Belém. Beto Barbosa celebrated his first major successes after moving to Fortaleza / Ceará , where he was also involved in political campaigns in addition to appearances.

In the 1980s Beto Barbosa became famous with his piece Adocica and founded the Lambada boom together with the band Kaoma . Adocica alone sold three million times. Adocica became the main theme of the telenovela O Sexo dos Anjos , which Rede Globo broadcast across the country from 1989 to 1990. In 1990 the LP Preta achieved further sales records. During his career he won numerous prizes and awards, including the coveted Troféu Imprensa as the only singer from Northern Brazil as best singer. His musical idols were the Brazilian singers Roberto Carlos and Elvis Presley . In his private life he had to endure several blows of fate, for example his 28-year-old daughter died in 2010 of an unexplained bacterial infection.
