Operating hour

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The operating hour (abbreviated: Bh) is a technical unit of time that is used to measure the active operating time and to specify the service life of various technical systems, machines and systems .

In technology, for example, operating hours is the duration in hours that a technical system can remain in operation between two maintenance operations without having to reckon with serious damage such as failure of components , assemblies or subsystems due to wear and tear .

For maintenance or preventive maintenance, the actual operating time is measured in operating hours, which, when a certain cumulative operating time is reached, is followed by the so-called maintenance period in which the corresponding machine or system is overhauled . For larger systems such as B. Nuclear power plants when a certain number of operating hours are reached, a so-called general overhaul is required, during which all critical parts as well as wear parts are checked and - if necessary - replaced.
