Else Katharina Bettina Hornhues, b. Bartels (born July 19, 1972 in Bremen ) is a German bank clerk and politician ( CDU ). From 2013 to 2017 she was a member of the German Bundestag . She has been a member of the Bremen Parliament since 2019 .

biography

Family, education and work

After graduating from high school, Hornhues completed an apprenticeship as a bank clerk at Sparkasse Bremen . Since 1997 she has been employed at Greensill Bank (formerly Nordfinanz Bank) in Bremen, with one interruption (parental leave 2001 to 2009 and while serving in the German Bundestag 2013–2017) . She is married and has three children. Her brother Michael Bartels was a member of the Bremen Parliament , her father-in-law Karl-Heinz Hornhues was also a member of the German Bundestag.

Hornhues joined the CDU and the Junge Union in 1991 . From 1994 to 1998 she was deputy state chairwoman of the Junge Union Bremen and from 2000 to 2002 she was district chairwoman of the Frauen Union Bremen-Nord. Since 1996 she has been a member of the district committee of the CDU of Bremen-North.

From 1995 to 2019 she was a member of the advisory board in the Burglesum district , from 2007 to 2012 and 2017-2019 she acted as CDU parliamentary group spokeswoman and from 2012 to 2013 as advisory board spokeswoman.

Since 2007 she has been deputy district chairwoman of the CDU in Burglesum, since 2010 a member of the CDU state board of the CDU Bremen , 2012–2014 she was deputy state chairwoman of the CDU Women's Union and since 2013 deputy district chairwoman of the CDU Bremen-Nord .

From 2015 to 2019 Hornhues was a member of the federal board of the Christian Democratic Workforce .

From 1995 to 1999 she was Deputy for Justice and Constitution and in the Labor Deputation in Bremen. From 2011 until she moved into the Bundestag she was deputy for education and in 2013 she was also deputy for culture.

As a candidate for the CDU Bremen, she was elected to the 18th German Bundestag for the 2013 federal election via the state list. She was a member of the Committee on Family, Seniors, Women and Youth , where she was rapporteur for the compatibility of family and work.

She was one of the 75 Union MPs - 68 from the CDU (26.9% of all CDU MPs) and 7 from the CSU (12.5% ​​of all CSU MPs) - who voted for same-sex marriage at the end of June 2017 .

In the 2017 Bundestag election, as a direct candidate in the Bremen II - Bremerhaven constituency, she was defeated by the SPD candidate, Uwe Schmidt , and did not move back into the Bundestag.
