Bettina Thierig (* 1964 in Hanover ) is a German sculptor and poet .

Career

Bettina Thierig grew up in Witten (parents: Christa and Detlef Thierig ), but has lived and worked in Lübeck since 2000. She studied with Joachim Peter Kastner at the University of Dortmund , state examination in 1992. From 1992 to 1996 she continued her studies at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . Thierig was a lecturer in the art department at the University of Dortmund in the 1998/99 academic year. In 1998 she created a sculpture for the stage set of Ibsen's “Ein Volksfeind” at the Mainz State Theater .

Bettina Thierig mainly works in stone, sometimes in bronze, but she has also motor-sawn larger-than-life wooden figures. With their strong presence, their characters call for a dialogue with their own physicality. Ornamental structures or colored accents in the stone sculptures compete with the shape. Sculptures in public space by Thierig can be found in Witten on the Eselsmarkt and in Hemer at the Hans-Prinzhorn-Klinik.

She lives with the entrepreneur Max Schön in Lübeck.
