Detlef Thierig

Detlef Thierig (* 1934 in Chemnitz ) is a German chemist , an extra-parliamentary politician and art critic . He has lived and worked in Witten an der Ruhr since 1967 .

Life

Gottreich Detlef Thierig comes from Chemnitz, did his Abitur there and moved from the GDR to the FRG. He studied chemistry in Hanover, graduated and did his doctorate in Münster with Fritz Umland . From 1966, Thierig worked at the cast steel plant in Witten as laboratory manager and later until 1999 as manager of the laboratories of Edelstahl Witten-Krefeld GmbH . He also worked on the chemists' committee Euronorm CRM program for European certified reference materials (iron and steel).

Thierig lives in Witten - Annen and has two grown children, including the sculptor Bettina Thierig , with his wife Christa, who died in 2018.

Political commitment

Thierig joined the extra-parliamentary opposition ( APO ) of the 1960s in solidarity , became a member of Nikolaus Koch's "Critical Christians" and founded the Republican Club Witten in 1969 with his wife Christa Thierig and about 20 other Witteners . At the same time, Christa and Detlef Thierig helped build the conscientious objection movement in the city and initiated a DFG / IdK and DFG / VK regional group.

For decades, "the Thierigs" have been involved in peace initiatives as fundamentally democratic opponents of war , currently it is the "Witten Peace Forum ". In 2009 he took part in a staged reading against the war in "Theater Play".

The non-party Thierig was also one of the founders of the city ​​partnership Kursk- Witten (long-term chairwoman: Christa Thierig, died in 2018) in the 1980s. Detlef Thierig is active in the Witten Art Association, although he is now blind.

Working as an art critic

Detlef Thierig is a controversial local art critic and has emphasized his position against kitsch and commerce in numerous speeches and appearances . He was active on the board of the Witten Artists' Association for several years and supports the city's Märkisches Museum . He is the organizer of the Witten Art Talks .
