Beverley Cross

Alan Beverley Cross (born April 13, 1931 in London , Great Britain ; † March 20, 1998 ibid) was a British librettist for operas and musicals as well as screenwriter .

biography

Beverley Cross was married to actress Maggie Smith between August 23, 1975 and his death on March 20, 1998 . He was also the stepfather of two film actors Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin , who emerged from Smith's first marriage to Robert Stephens .

Cross died of a series of aneurysms at the age of 67 .

Libretto author

Cross wrote mainly libretti , especially for operas by Richard Rodney Bennett , including for

  • 1965: All the King's Men
  • 1970: Victory
  • 1970: The Rising of the Moon

For his work on the musical Half a Sixpence , he was nominated twice for the Tony Award in 1965; in the categories of best author (musical) and in the film implementation for the category of best musical film .
