The probation in production, also probation in the socialist production or colloquially: "for probation in the production" was a disciplinary and corrective measure of government agencies in the GDR . It was applied to people with active non-conformist behavior towards the GDR and the SED in order to (re) insert them into state structures (studies, management, economics, defense) or to people who were distant from the GDR system after their probation in state structures incorporate.

This condition was usually imposed by senior departments against students, artists, intellectuals, but also executives and employees with special tasks or members of the SED ( party punishment ). As a rule, those affected were assigned a job with normal physical work in a collective of socialist work for a period of 1-2 years in order to gain a view and behavior towards the socialist state, actively represented by the work collective, through participation in collective physical work to correct. At the end of the posting, the management of the work collective, together with the management of the company union , submitted an independent assessment of the person concerned to the posting office and made a recommendation for or against the person concerned. Depending on the assessment, the person concerned could resume his or her original activity or start a new activity (e.g. studies).

Most of the time, the victim was observed by unofficial staff from the Ministry of State Security while on probation . In some cases there were serious accidents at work for those affected during probation in production. B. with Jürgen Teller .

Those affected included BK Tragelehn , Paul Werner Wagner , Bettina Wegner , Siegmar Faust , Roland Jahn , Eggert Beleites , Ibrahim Böhme , Horst Jonas , Hans Jacobus and Klaus Schlueter .
