Bhatpara ( Bengali : ভাটপাড়া , Bhāṭpāṛā ) is a city in the Indian state of West Bengal with around 390,000 inhabitants (2011 census). The city is located on the Hugli River in the Uttar District 24 Pargana 36 kilometers north of Kolkata (Calcutta). Bhatpara is part of the Kolkata Metropolitan Area .

history

The city to the north of Kolkata is well connected to the center of the metropolis via railways and roads. The city was created as an administrative unit in 1899, in that year it was separated from the Naihati Township .

economy

Once famous for its schools for teaching Sanskrit , Bhatpara is now a flourishing economic center on the Hugli River, which is otherwise in high demand. Jute products are primarily manufactured in the city, but paper and textiles are also manufactured.
