The Big Tracadie River (earlier name: Tracadie River ) is an approximately 75 km long tributary of the Gulf of St. Lawrence in the Canadian province of New Brunswick .
River course
The Big Tracadie River has its source in a wooded area 5 km north of Allardville at an altitude of 135 m . It initially flows 10 km to the northeast and then turns 30 km to the southeast. It flows east for the last 35 km. The last 15 km form the river's estuary . On its northern shore the city (located Regional Municipality ) Tracadie . The Little Tracadie River flows further north . Both rivers end in an elongated lagoon, which is connected to the open sea at several narrow points. The course of the river is in the central part of the Acadian Peninsula in southeast Gloucester County .
Hydrology
The catchment area of the Big Tracadie River extends over an area of 541 km². The mean discharge 25 km above the mouth is 8.38 m³ / s. In the months of April and May the river carries the largest amount of water with an average of 24.5 and 22.6 m³ / s.
