Bilal Tabti (born June 7, 1993 in Jijel ) is an Algerian athlete who starts over 3000 meters obstacle .
Athletic career
Bilal Tabti has specialized in the obstacle course since 2010. At that time he was over 2000 meters Algerian U18 champion and competed over the same distance at the first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. He made it into the finals as fifth in the preliminary run, where he finished fourth with a time of 5: 44.34 minutes. In 2012 he then competed in the older age group at the U20 World Championships in Barcelona over 3000 meters in the obstacle course. He ran a time of 8: 32.08 minutes in the final and was fifth. In 2014 Tabti was the first Algerian champion among adults. In June 2015 in Amiens, where he also trains, he improved his best time in the obstacle course by more than ten seconds to 8: 21.15 minutes. As a result, he first competed at the World Championships in Beijing. He succeeded for the first time in a championship finals at an international championship among adults. In the final, he lagged behind his lead time and ended up in 13th place with 8: 29.04 minutes. A month later, he also made it into the final of the Africa Games in Brazzaville. There he took tenth place. In October he finally finished ninth at the Military World Games in Mungyeong, Korea.
In 2016 Tabti took part in the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. However, he was eliminated in advance. His time of 8: 38.87 minutes was more than 18 seconds behind his season best, which he set in June in Rome. In 2017 he finished third at the Arab Championships in Radés, Tunisia. Previously, again in Amiens, he set a time of 8:20:20 minutes, which until now, as of 2020, is his best performance. In August he took part in the World Championships in London. After a successful preliminary, he was disqualified in the final due to a technical error. In 2019, Tabti took part in the Africa Games for the second time in Rabat in August . He came in tenth and last place among those who even reached the goal. At the beginning of October he was eliminated from the World Championships in Doha. That same month he won the silver medal at the World Military Games in Wuhan.
