The Bredbeck Educational Center (until 2016: Bredbeck Conference Center ) is the educational center of the Osterholz district . It has been recognized as a home adult education center in Lower Saxony since 2013 . The facility was founded in 1976 as the “Bredbeck Youth Education Center” on the site of what is now the Bredbeck landscape protection area north of Osterholz-Scharmbeck on the edge of the Teufelsmoors north of Bremen.

The establishment

The manor house, which has existed since 1850, serves the educational establishment as a seminar, office and administration building, which also houses the kitchen and dining room. For the seminar guests, there are several overnight and seminar houses, sports and leisure facilities on the premises. An important target group is the population of the Osterholz district. A special feature of the facility is the combination of political and cultural adult and youth education. The institution is a member of the working group of German educational institutions .

The facility pursues a wide range of educational opportunities with the aim of offering "education for everyone under one roof". The Bredbeck educational facility organizes around 150 openly advertised seminars every year. In terms of content, these are based on current issues from culture, society and politics, which are taken up in the form of annual themes, among other things. An action-oriented, participatory approach is characteristic of the seminar activity in Bredbeck.

The pedagogical team consists of five educational officers. The study director is Frank Bobran, the deputy director is Ursula Grzeschke. In addition, 12 employees in the kitchen, housekeeping, caretaker, controlling and administration work to provide participants with ideal learning and meeting conditions. The overriding goal is to give guests the opportunity to freely develop their personalities. The educational work is aimed at making politics tangible and imparting the knowledge, skills and abilities required to help shape society.

History of the Bredbeck site

In 1543 there were two farms in Bredbeck. In 1850, the cloth manufacturer and councilor Martin Schmand from Scharmbeck acquired the first farm in Bredbeck and built a mansion on its banks - today's main building of the educational institution. In 1889 two brothers from Geestemünde took over the estate and lands. The manor house became an inn. In 1937 the Borgward family took over the estate as a summer residence. In 1940 the “Reichsfiskus Luftfahrt” of the German Reich became the owner of the land. In 1942 the Oldenburg State Insurance Institute took over the manor house and the surrounding park and opened a pulmonary hospital. In 1971, the Osterholz district acquired the manor house with the park. In 1976, the Bredbeck youth education center in the Osterholz district opened. In 1998, the youth education center became the Bredbeck conference center, which has since operated independently in the Osterholz district. In 2006 the Bredbeck conference center became the center for preventive education. In 2013 the Bredbeck conference center was recognized as a Lower Saxony home adult education center (HVHS).

location

The Bredbeck educational facility is located between Bremen and Bremerhaven in Freißenbüttel (Osterholz-Scharmbeck). The conservation area is located on a ridge on the edge of the Teufelsmoors. The park from the 19th century can still be seen clearly. On the mostly wooded area there are two ponds, a stream and a historic barrow .
