Praia do Bilene

Praia do Bilene , often just Bilene , is a small town in southern Mozambique , about 145 kilometers from the capital Maputo . Praia do Bilene is one of the most famous seaside resorts in South Mozambique. The place is located directly on the lagoon Lagoa Uembje, which is separated from the open ocean by a narrow strip of dunes .

The main source of income for the place is tourism. In addition to numerous accommodations in various categories, this also includes activities such as sailing, canoeing, kite surfing, diving / snorkeling and paragliding. Due to the tourist rush, banks ( Banco BCI , Millenium bim ) and some supermarkets have also settled here.

Bilene is located off the national road EN1 , a 30-kilometer-long asphalt road leads from Macia to the seaside resort. There is also an airfield for small aircraft in Bilene.

Administratively, Praia do Bilene belongs as an administrative post ( posto administrativo ) to the Bilene Macia district of the Gaza Province . In May 2013 Bilene was elevated to Munizip ( município ) and thus enjoys certain rights of self-government. Among other things, the population can elect a mayor. In the last local elections in October 2013 , the population elected Mufundisse Chilende ( FRELIMO ) with 91.74 percent as mayor.
