Bill Carlsen

Bill Carlsen (* 1904 ; † 1979 ) was an American jazz and entertainment musician ( tenor saxophone , clarinet ) and band leader who was active in the Milwaukee music scene in the 1920s .

Life

In the early 1920s, Carlsen led the house band in a restaurant called The Wisconsin Roof , which was popular in the American Midwest as The Wisconsin Roof Orchestra of Devine's ( Wisconsin Roof Orchestra for short ). From 1926 the band recorded for the Paramount jazz sub-label Broadway , including Tiger Rag . Around 1929 Carlsen played under his own name ( Bill Carlsen & His Orchestra ) in Wisconsin other, more jazz-oriented tracks such as “Milenburg Joys” and “Clarinet Marmalad”. The recordings were re-released by John RT Davies on the reissue label Jazz Oracle. In the field of jazz he was involved in 12 recording sessions between 1926 and 1931. In the 1930s Carlsen, who was called "The Waltz King", led the orchestra in the Modernistic Ballroom until 1936 , then the dance band in the Casa Loma Ballroom in St. Louis.
