Bill Cockburn
William Hastings "Bill" Cockburn (born March 1, 1902 in Toronto , Ontario , † March 21, 1975 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) was a Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper . At the Olympic Winter Games in 1932 , he won the gold medal as a member of the Canadian national team.
Career
Bill Cockburn began his career as an ice hockey player with the Tammany Tigers, for whose junior and senior team he was active from 1920 to 1926. The goalkeeper then spent a season at the Montréal Victorias before returning to Winnipeg. In 1931 he won the Allan Cup , the Canadian amateur championship title, with the Winnipeg Hockey Club as team captain . At the 1932 Winter Games, he represented Canada with the Winnipeg Hockey Club. In 2004 he was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame.
International
For Canada , Cockburn took part in the 1932 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid , where he and his team won the gold medal. At the Winter Games he was the team captain of Canada.
